Crystals healing with Far Infrared?

First this video caught my attention because it was the healing power of crystals.  As a witchy person, I love to investigate all sorts of new things and ideas, especially topics along the lines of crystals and healing.  But I had little idea what this video was really inferring by it’s demonstration.  So, I did a little more digging.

Infrared light is light that right above the visible light we see  on electromagnetic light range.  This is the same energy we use night vision cameras and goggles to see.  There is near infrared and far infrared energies.  Near infrared are those infrared waves closest to visible light.  Far infrared are higher in frequency and closer to microwave waves on the electromagnetic range.  And this light is being investigated as healing energy.

Nasa describes infrared light or energy as : “Since the primary source of infrared radiation is heat or thermal radiation, any object which has a temperature radiates in the infrared. Even objects that we think of as being very cold, such as an ice cube, emit infrared. When an object is not quite hot enough to radiate visible light, it will emit most of its energy in the infrared. For example, hot charcoal may not give off light but it does emit infrared radiation which we feel as heat. The warmer the object, the more infrared radiation it emits. ” (http://science.hq.nasa.gov/kids/imagers/ems/infrared.html)  So, yes, even quartz crystals will emit far and near infrared energy or light.  In the above article, Nasa even compares infrared to a type of color, simply one the eyes to do interpret as a typical color.  Certain types of snakes, can even “see” in infrared.

The author of the video believes that quartz crystals are a good infrared healing material because it emits and absorbs infrared more potently than other stones.  For over twenty years now, there have been studies being done in China and Japan about the healing benefits of infrared light and energy.  “As far back as 1989, researchers found convincing evidence that when infrared was applied to local areas or to the entire body, it had a sleep-modulatory effect on patients suffering from insomnia. Additionally, infrared therapy produced a blood circulation-enhancing effect in human skin.” (from the authors website: http://www.energyofcrystals.com/z_Healing_Power_Infrared_Light.htm).  But the list of systems which infrared can beneficially effect includes the cardiovascular system, the circulatory system, and to an extent, the neurological system.  One study cited, was conducted on fibromyalgia patients  and goes on to summarize the study findings as, “All of the patients experienced a significant reduction in pain (by about half) after the first session. The effects of treatment became stable after 10 sessions, with participants experiencing up to a 78% reduction in their pain.”  But from what is cited, it almost looks like many of the benefits derived from using infrared saunas and wraps are based it’s ability to emit heat, in a very consistent, more efficient way then electrical devices.  It is certainly something to think about though, especially since I think the video author is correct that being in contact with quartz crystals does create some kind of loop of energy, just based on my own observation about how quartz interacts.  And I would certainly consider making a “heat” pack (like a heating pad, but with quartz crystals inside, instead of corn or beans or rice), for future curiosity sake!

What, dear reader, do you think about the healing power of quartz crystals now?
